The Pier, Eastbourne - monochrome
printed on Giclée Epson Semi-Gloss
This image is the black and white twin sister of 'The Pier, Eastbourne'. It seemed, on reflection, that a monochrome version of this print would be ideal for a victorian construction, with all that wonderful wrought iron framework and those elegantly fragile buildings. The over-riding concern here was to make the print itself appear as old fashioned as the pier, as though the photograph had been taken in the early days of photography, the heightened contrast giving the scene a decidedly ‘’yesteryear" look. After all, those old victorian monochrome prints had, indeed still have, a certain nostalgic charm that today’s vivid colour prints just can’t achieve.
