The way it all ends

A giant star goes nova and ejects its outer shell of incandescent gases into the waiting vacuum of space.
It took a complex blending of photography and pure collage to achieve this abstract image. The photography came first and the resulting print subjected to some seriously destructive handling. The fragments of 'ruined' print were subsequently reassembled, along with other diverse materials, into a collage and rephotographed. This second image was comprehensively reworked in Photoshop to achieve the fine art image you see here. The scientists recently thought Betelgeuse might be going nova, but it wasn't to be. Still, we'll always have this print!
