The way home - evening light
printed on Giclée Epson Semi-Gloss
The original image was caught on monochrome film stock (Ilford HP4) whilst walking in the dales of the Peak District National Park, UK. The fading light had already been further weakened by gathering clouds which threatened to overwhelm the sun at any moment. Even so, it continued to shine through as best it could. The combination of high speed panchromatic film and the failing light made for a grainy and contrasty image, just right to capture the prevailing mood of melancholy in the shadowy landscape. For this photographer it was a long and lonely walk through the Lathkill Dale to the village beyond, invisible in the damp greyness, save for the church spire, so tiny in the distance, appearing through the haze.
