Hades Unleashed

This image was created in 2006 as a digital file, dating back to a long journey through China. The CF card containing the file, languishing and forgotten in a shoe box, was 'rediscovered' and committed to Adobe Lightroom. The original photo was captured by pointing a Nikon D200 through a railway carriage window while speeding past a bleak and depressing industrial landscape somewhere near the city of Jiayuguan. Due to the failing late afternoon light and the movement of the railway carriage the image was very grainy and lacking in both clarity and colour, The reds and yellows were added in Photoshop. However, all this works positively in its favour, for it is a potent vision of what unfettered industrialisation can do to what should have been a beautiful mountain landscape. Is this the dark and depressing future to which we are consigning ourselves? Is this indeed Hades unleashed?
