Art Deco with fluffy cotton clouds
Terry Baker
printed on Giclée Epson Semi-Gloss
This fine-art print has been developed from a photograph, taken on a Nikon D700 in 2009, of the NBC Tower, 445 North Cityfront Plaza Drive. Opened in 1989, this eye-catching example of post-modern architecture carries a marked vein of art deco in its design. It is reminiscent of many cinema facades from the 1930s and 40s and of the skyscrapers in Fritz Lang’s ‘Metropolis.’ It is an image fully deserving of those vivid Technicolor hues brought to the films showing in these cinemas, most which, alas, have long since gone. Thanks to Photoshop and many long hours of patient editing these bold colours have been carefully applied to the print, which has subsequently been posterised, and the cotton wool clouds in an indigo sky added as a final touch. Very effective, and very art deco, n’est-ce pas?
