An oak sapling growing in the hollowed out trunk of a mature oak, a rare occurrence indeed. The original image was shot on monochrome film, subsequently digitised and developed in Photoshop. Colour filters were applied to mimic the effects sepia and gold toning would have on a traditional silver image print, and also to help the sapling stand out against its mother oak. Sadly, on treading the same route the following day, we noted that the sapling had disappeared, no doubt torn from its resting place by some animal unknown. Life is such a gamble, even for a baby tree.
