Shanghai. Light streaks on the Bund
printed on Giclée Epson Semi-Gloss
Shanghai is probably China’s most dynamic city with a fascinating contrast between the old and the new. It has become a fashionable metropolis (the ‘little red book’ long since gone) but still retains a fair slice of its ‘old world’ charm. This is very apparent in the Bund, a stretch of old colonial buildings running along a section of the Zhongshan Road on the west bank of the Huangpu River. The photograph (camera stabilised on a tripod) was taken at night with a very slow shutter speed to catch the colours of these brightly lit colonial buildings and to transform the headlights of passing traffic into glowing ribbons of light. The intention was to capture the mood of optimism of this place with its vibrant and colourful night life.
